There is some beef in the NBA between Paul Pierce and Draymond Green that needs to come to an end.
It all started on Feb. 23 when the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Clippers 123-113. During the game, Pierce came hard at Green claiming he couldn’t contain Blake Griffin. Green took exception and went back. Green retaliated by saying “Chasing that farewell tour. They don’t love you like that. You thought you was Kobe?”
It didn’t end there though.
Green when asked about the confrontation added on to his trash talking. Green implied Pierce’s hall of fame career was unimpressive until Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett arrived in Boston and helped deliver the Celtics a championship.Embed from Getty Images
Green has a gold medal. He has finished second in the defensive player of the year voting. He is a triple double waiting to happen most nights. He does have one ring, but as the third option on the team. You can also make the argument Green cost the Warriors a second championship by getting suspended for game five of last years finals.
Green is a good player, but he’s the fourth option on his own team. He is only averaging just over 10 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. He’s only shooting 43 percent from the field, 32 percent from three, and 67 percent from the free throw line. Who knows how relevant Green would be if he wasn’t playing with two or three top 15 players.
We know how good Pierce was though. Pierce came two wins away from a finals appearance in 2002 before the Celtics big three. Pierce was a five-time all-star before the big three. Pierce averaged 25 points per game the year before the big three. Even when the big three was intact, Pierce was not the third option and he also won finals MVP.
Pierce has over 26,000 points, a ring, and a finals MVP. He will be in the hall of fame when it is his time. Green has never led a team to anything expect blowing a 3-1 lead in the finals.
Green needs to keep Pierce’s name out of his mouth and respect the 10-time all-star and future hall of famer.
